so they will cost more than 376 each if things go well? they look amazing, would be quite interested but faaack. not sure i could ever justify it lol
the great part for you though of course is, noone else makes R replacement tips so you would be in business for sure.
The $376 is the cost of the mild steel on my trailer, which I use for building weld fixtures (allowing me to make the same part identical to an original, thus being able to ship bolt on parts)
in the end those tips will really on with his setup for perfect fitment. not to mention wont work at all as a simple replacement tip since the factory R has 4 separate pipes.
pretty sure he means pre orders for the full kit.
Exactly! The OEM tips are individual ovals (even the steel under the chrome caps), these are specifically for my full R TBE.
The pre order feeler is to judge if I should just offer the DP/MP (which will fit Mk7 & 7.5) or go all the way and also offer a full TBE as a product that can be built to order and ship wherever.
$376 mild steel... the bars sitting on the trailer to fab up the jigs.
This guy knows! Material costs are absolutely insane, that same pile would’ve been $120ish three years ago (and I didn’t have to drive a hour round trip to get it then either).
@GTI Jake
Could you make quad tips that would fit a GTI AWE track exhaust?
I’m only about half way done building those, but I think it would be cost prohibitive.
$200 in materials for what you see there, and 1.5Hrs of labor (so far, about half way done)…that’s before adding inlets to them, as I haven’t decided if it’ll 45 or straight in. That $200 isn’t including anything for the inlets, the scrap I had to weld on to be able to cut the Y pipes, or the consumables used to make them (three hours or so worth of Argon is like buying a full tank of 93 octane for your car).
Realistically to sell those as a bolt on for someone else’s system it would be $500 for the pair (kinda silly on a $800 crush bent AWE 2.25” exhaust).
