It was the same for me. I remember having to really wedge the phone and wire into the cubby so that bumps didn't disconnect it. I'm so happy with my setup now. The AAWireless, the wireless charging pad and the USB splitter cable all fit in the cubby (I have a pixel 3 so it fits horizontally...
